The effects of nutrition on mental health
A healthy lifestyle and good nutrition can go a long way and help with so many things in the human body. Your mood can be impacted by your health, and your health can be impacted by your nutritional intake. There is no single food that can cure someone's depression or anxiety, however, there are specific foods that can impact someone’s health in a positive way. There are specific foods that can boost your mood but,“ lasting treatment of the symptoms of depression and anxiety will partly depend on a healthy diet.”(Food And Mood, 2019) The main goal is to decrease unhealthy habits and to exchange them with new healthy habits. Two diets that are recommended are the DASH diet which, “aims at lowering sugar intake” and the Mediterranean diet which, “lays emphasis on consuming more healthy fats.” Research shows that “medical students recorded a 20% reduction in anxiety after their omega-3 fatty acid intake was increased.” Some food that contains your omega threes is fish, nuts, and seeds. Another study showed that the risk of depression was lowered by 50% for those who followed a Mediterranean diet compared to those that did not. It was also studied in 2017 that those who consume more sugar have a higher risk of developing anxiety and depression in five years. (Food And Mood, 2019)
